Atop a hill in northern Barbaresco sits Castello di Neive, a 19th century castle built on the ruins of a medieval fortress. It is perhaps one of the most important sites for the history of winemaking in Piedmont as it was here- as the legend tells- that Louis Oudart produced the first dry, stable wine from Nebbiolo thus making it easily transportable. Louis called this wine 'Neive' and in 1857 it won a gold medal in London. After purchasing the castle in 1964 the Stupino family modernized the winemaking facilities, were instrumental in repopulating the nearly extinct Arneis vine with their plantings at Montebertotto, and obtained Santo Stefano- arguably the most important vineyard in Barbaresco. Join us as we take a tour through the outstanding wines of this storied castle.
